Overview
This full-day wine tour to the Kakheti region, Georgia's premier wine-producing area located about 100km east of Tbilisi, offers an immersive journey into the world's oldest wine-making tradition dating back 8,000 years. The tour typically includes visits to two carefully selected wineries where you'll discover the unique qvevri method - traditional wine fermentation in large clay vessels buried underground, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. You'll taste 6-8 varieties of distinctive Georgian wines including amber/orange wines, bold Saperavi reds, crisp Rkatsiteli whites, and semi-sweet Kindzmarauli, often accompanied by chacha (traditional grape vodka). The experience is complemented by a traditional Georgian lunch with wine pairings featuring regional delicacies.
Beyond wine tasting, the tour showcases Kakheti's cultural treasures including Sighnaghi, the romantic hilltop "City of Love" with its cobblestone streets, ancient defensive walls, and breathtaking views over the Alazani Valley, and the sacred Bodbe Monastery, an important pilgrimage site surrounded by beautiful gardens. Some tours also include visits to historic estates like Tsinandali with its aristocratic mansion and manicured grounds.
