Georgia is a transcontinental country located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Covering about 69,700 km² (26,900 square miles), it is a small but geographically diverse nation that includes high mountain ranges, fertile valleys, and a short Black Sea coastline. With a population of around 3.7 million people, Georgia is known for its rich cultural heritage, ancient history, and strategic position between major regions and civilizations.
Georgia is bordered by Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south, Azerbaijan to the southeast, and the Black Sea to the west. The country includes several distinct regions, including the autonomous republic of Adjara and the historical regions of Kakheti, Kartli, Samegrelo, and Svaneti. Two territories—Abkhazia and South Ossetia—are recognized by most of the international community as part of Georgia but are currently outside the effective control of the Georgian government.
The majority of the country lies in the Northern Hemisphere, though its southern regions extend close to the boundary of the Southern Caucasus. Georgia is home to one of the world’s oldest wine-making traditions and remains a cultural bridge linking Europe and Asia, with growing influence in trade, tourism, and education.
