Destination: Armenia
Armenia is a landlocked country located in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Covering an area of about 29,743 km², it is known for its rugged mountains, ancient cultural heritage, and one of the world’s oldest civilizations. As of recent estimates, Armenia has a population of around 3 million people, making it a relatively small but historically rich nation. It is bordered by Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, Iran to the south, and Turkey to the west.
Armenia is home to the world’s first officially Christian state, having adopted Christianity in 301 AD. Its capital and largest city, Yerevan, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. The country includes numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, medieval monasteries, and mountain landscapes dominated by the iconic Mount Ararat, which, although located in present-day Turkey, holds deep symbolic significance for Armenians. Administratively, Armenia is divided into 11 provinces (marzes) including the capital region. Positioned mostly in the Northern Hemisphere, the country enjoys a highland continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
